About the Event

Neptune Frost
Directed by Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman
(US and Rwanda, 2021, 110 min.)

Friday September 23 and Saturday September 24 | 7:00 PM

Set in a Futuristic and very present Rwanda, Neptune Frost tells the tale of its title character, an intersex hacker (played by both Cheryl Isheja and Elvis Ngabo) and the destructive effects of global culture on a small village. It is also a musical. Directed by the team of Saul Williams and Anisia Uzeyman, it is a film that offers of genre shifting and musical expression as a response to our current situation.

Neptune Frost has a quality of few films: pure, authentic creativity. It can be overwhelming, mudding up the actual narrative of a movie that coasts around genres, topics, and emotions. It confuses more than it explains. But none of that matters. It always has something important to say and a powerful way to say it” – Michael Frank, The Film Stage

Neptune Frost thrillingly captures the social, economic, political, and material character of a past-, future-, and present-day Rwanda in the age of global communication… . it repeatedly stresses how the global commodity chain of electronics depends on the extractive industries in third-world countries” – Jake Cole, Slant
