About the Event
Organized by Sydney Boyd, Rice Public Art will present a performance of Inuksuit, a concert-length work for between 9 and 99 percussionists, by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams. Directed by Doug Perkins, produced by Brandon Bell, and featuring a unique landscape architecture by Falon Mihalic designed specifically for the live oak grove at Entrance 1 on Main St, Inuksuit will bring musicians, the public, and arts community members together for the “ultimate environmental piece.”
The durational performance will take place just inside Entrance 1, directly across Main Street from the Hermann Park/Rice U stop on the METRORail. The performance will last approximately 70 minutes.
Sponsored by the Rice University Humanities Research Center’s Spatial Humanities Initiative, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The event is co-sponsored by Rice Public Art, the Moody Center for the Arts, the Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences, the English Department Graduate Symposium, and the Shepherd School of Music.
