Adapted from the 1959 novel by Jean Pélégri, this film made during the Algerian uprising, tells the story of a man returning to Algeria to visit his dying father. This is James Blue’s first film won the first ever Prix de la Semaine de la Critique at Cannes in 1962. Blue would go on to be one of the founders of the Rice Media Center and the teaching of film at Rice. This is a restored copy of the film, a film that has been difficult to see for many years.
