This Worsham screening presents The Maltese Falcon, a film of many firsts, like Humphrey Bogart’s first starring role, John Houston’s directorial debut, Sydney Greenstreet’s film debut. But it is also the third adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s hardboiled novel. Sam Spade confronts a crew of scoundrels who are in search of the title object, the stuff dreams are made of. Featuring a towering performance by Mary Astor as a fabulous femme fatale.
