About the Event

NOTE: The Shepherd School’s Walter Kris Hubert Professor of Orchestral Conducting, Larry Rachleff, is experiencing a health issue that will preclude his presence on the podium at the Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra Concert on Saturday, September 28. The performance will be conducted by Joshua Hong, 3rd year MMus student in orchestral conducting.

Program: Mendelssohn The Hebrides, Op. 26 (Fingal’s Cave); Rossini Bassoon Concerto (Bianca Chambul, soloist); and Haydn Symphony No. 101 in D Major (The Clock)

James Webster will give a pre-concert lecture at 6:45 p.m. discussing Hadyn’s Symphony No. 101 in Room 1131. Free admission, no tickets required

Road Closure to Parking Lot 2
Laboratory Road, northwest of Alice Pratt Brown Hall, is closed for the construction of the new Loop Road project. The easiest way to access West Lot 2 is to enter campus via entrance #18 off Rice Boulevard. Traffic beyond West Lot 2 will not be permitted.


When entering campus via entrance #17 at Shepherd Drive, turn left immediately after the George R. Brown Tennis Center. When entering campus via entrance #8 at Stockton Drive, turn left immediately after the Anderson-Clarke Center and follow signs to West Lot 2.
At the end of the evening, the easiest way to exit West Lot 2 is to turn left immediately after the gates and drive straight to exit campus entrance #18.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes our patrons, but we also look forward with great excitement to the opening of our new music building and the magnificent new space it will afford all of us.

Directions & Parking

West Lot 2 is the parking lot for all Shepherd School of Music events. Access this lot via campus entrance #18 off Rice Boulevard. 

Overflow parking is available in West Lot 3 or in the Central Campus Garage, located just east of the music school (underneath the Jones Graduate School of Business) near campus entrance #20 off Rice Boulevard.

Stude Concert Hall, Duncan Recital Hall, Hirsch Orchestra Rehearsal Hall, and Wortham Opera Theatre are located in Alice Pratt Brown Hall on the Rice University campus.  Alice Pratt Brown Hall is wheelchair accessible. Signs inside the campus near entrances 1, 2, 8, and 20 provide directions to all visitor parking.
