About the Event
On view: March 18 - September 30, 2019
The second in Rice Public Art’s Platform series of temporary public art exhibitions brings celebrated artist Nina Katchadourian’s outdoor sound work, Please, Please, Pleased to Meet’cha (2006/2019) to Rice. Installed among the branches of six trees in the Live Oak grove between Herring Hall and Brochstein Pavilion, Katchadourian’s sound installation features the voices of United Nations interpreters performing the phonetic spellings of various bird calls, invoking curiosity and questioning the limits of language, translation, and species recognition.
