A Night of Philosophy and Ideas

About the Event

A Night of Philosophy and Ideas is an all-night happening featuring philosophical debate, performances, screenings, academic talks, dance and music. Originated by the Institut français in 2010, the event has been presented in Paris, London, Berlin, Mykonos, Helsinki, Lima, New York, and Los Angeles: 2019 will mark its Houston debut.

Taking its cue from France’s leading role in the conversation around climate change and from Houston’s status as an international energy capital, the night will revolve around the broadly- defined theme of “ecology.” Keynote presentations will be made by Rice Professor Timothy Morton and renown multi-media artist Laurie Anderson. From 7pm-1am, the Moody’s multi-disciplinary performance and exhibition venues will host musicians, dancers, and artists. Studio-classrooms will hold lectures by Rice University faculty and international thought-leaders. Gallery spaces will house a virtual reality experience and a pop-up Café Philosophe.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
