Special LowFi presentation of Canyon Cinema 16mm film selections

About the Event

Canyon Cinema program for LowFi

Avant-garde 16mm films curated by Seth Mitter

Since 1967 Canyon Cinema has operated as a distributor, point of access and community hub for independent, experimental, avant-garde, fugitive and otherwise uncategorizable film art. More than five decades later Canyon continues to distribute an utterly unique catalog of over 3700 works by 275 artists, and is one of very few remaining actively circulating collections of 16mm, 35mm and super8 films worldwide. Tonight’s show will give Houston audiences a chance encounter some of the defining works of American avant-garde cinema as they were meant to be seen, while also recuperating forgotten voices and casting a contemporary eye on Canyon’s collection.
