Adapted from former Rice Professor Judith C. Brown’s book Immodest Acts, Benedetta finds 83 year old Paul Verhoeven (Spetters, Robocop, Showgirls) returning to his directorial roots of sex, violence, sacrilege, and generally scandalous behavior. “You can’t call a film as lurid and alive as “Benedetta” a closing statement, but there is something valedictory about the erotic religious drama, which finds time to explore questions of voyeurism, sadism, masochism, systems of power, perversion, repression, rebellion, storytelling, divinity, irony and belief. Oh, and sex — plenty and plenty of nun-on-nun sex” – The Wrap

The Big Queer Picture Show is wrangling the biggest and queerest films around and bringing them to venues all across Houston for the cinematic pleasure of casual viewers and screen queens alike.
